Andy McCormick let go with a series of putts and yelps. Before the box call quit resonating, the tom offered its spine-tingling reply.

Almost as quickly, any poise I had mustered up was gone. And somehow, call it hunter’s intuition, I knew things were about to get worse before they got a whole lot better…

Wow!! It’s hard to believe that spring is already here again, but the signs are showing us that it’s back. The trees are blooming, gardens are being prepared and the Spring Chinook are being caught.

This is such a great time of the year to me. It’s time to get the Salmon gear out and your pre-spawn smallmouth bass gear together. Time to make sure your gun is sighted in and ready to go for the Spring Turkey season. The next thing is to take the time to figure out what you are going to do first. Will I hunt the turkeys first or try to catch a Spring Chinook? There is one other option here at the Big K Guest Ranch. You could come and hunt for a spring gobbler, and if you get it early enough, you could try for a Chinook in the afternoon or even some pre-spawn Bass if you would like. You might even get all 3 in the same day!

We are very excited and looking forward to another great year. We are expecting another excellent run of Spring Chinook, hopefully close to 15,000 or better which would be awesome. We also have a lot of very nice gobblers hanging around the ranch as well. This should be a wonderful spring at the Big K.

We are just finishing up our winter steelhead season, but there is still some time to get after the steelies if you’d like. All in all our steelhead season was a good one. The good days definitely outweighed the slow days.

We are expecting another good run of American Shad in May and early June. In May we can fish for the Chinook, Shad, and Smallmouth Bass all in the same day if you would like or just concentrate on one species.

We hope to see you at the Ranch this year! Give us a call to make a reservation at: 800-390-2445.

Tight Lines and Bent Rods from the Big K,

Sincerely,

Scott Wolfe
